First Settlers Great Path (full trek)

A 143 km circular trek in six stages through Huéscar, Castril, Castilléjar, Galera, Orce and Puebla de Don Fadrique.

The route

The First Settlers Great Path is a circular trek through the Huéscar district, in the heart of the Granada Geopark, among badlands, rivers, fertile valleys and villages whose heritage spans from Prehistory to the present day. It starts and finishes in Huéscar and is divided into six stages; Orce is the end of the fourth and the start of the fifth.

The Granada Geopark gives it 143 km and about six days of walking, and the walking times of the six stages published on the official Great Path website add up to about 40 h 25 min. The Turgranada page mentions 152 km, a difference worth bearing in mind when planning. It can also be done running or by mountain bike.

No MIDE rating is published: the «high» difficulty is an estimate based on the longest stages, of more than eight hours. Book accommodation and supplies in each village in advance.
