Sierra de Orce

A limestone range covering about a third of the municipality, topped by El Argerín at 1,826 metres.

Discover

To the south of the municipality rises the Sierra de Orce, an east–west limestone range that covers about a third of Orce's land. Its summit is El Argerín, at 1,826 metres, and to the east the range joins the Sierra de María-Los Vélez Natural Park, across the border in Almería.

Its slopes are covered with holm oaks and Aleppo pines, with Portuguese oaks and black pines where soil and moisture allow. It is home to wild boar, Iberian ibex and Barbary sheep, and griffon vultures often soar above it. The map point marks the summit of El Argerín; ask at the Tourist Office before heading into the hills.
