Plaza Nueva is the centre of life in Orce: the town hall stands here and the fortress and church are just a few steps away. In 1775–1776 the Belmonte-Segura family built a palace here that locals renamed the Casa Grande («Big House»).
It was home to Pascuala Belmonte Carreño and her husband, Colonel José Villalobos Cabrera from the Alpujarra, a figure of the Peninsular War. Today it is a private house and can only be seen from the outside.
Every January, from the 16th to the 20th, Orce celebrates the festivities of San Antón and San Sebastián, declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, with soldiers, dancers, the page, the «Cascaborra», Moors and Christians, open-air dances and migas at midday.
